The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has ordered the dairy industry to improve operations to ensure product safety and quality.
Substandard factories are being told to stop production and fix their problems within a fixed time limit. Product standards for the dairy industry are also being brought in and new requirements will be set to enter the market.
There are also new rules for factory approvals. The ministry is subsidizing dairy producers whose products are clean and safe, but have seen a drop in sales along with the rest of the industry. So far, tests on dairy products across China have turned up 8,000 tons of substandard dairy products. And customers have returned 900 tons of substandard milk products.
