| China has just denounced a US government decision to sell arms to Taiwan worth 6.5 billion US dollars. |
Liu Jianchao said the arms agreement violates the three joint communiques between China and the US. He said the decision interferes in China's internal affairs and endangers China's national security. And he said it also impedes the peaceful development of cross-strait relations. Liu also said there is only one China, and that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China.
He added no one can shake the Chinese government and its people's will to safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity; and that no one can stop the trend of developing cross-strait exchanges and cooperation. Liu said China urges the US government to recognize the harm of the arms sale, and to fulfill its commitment of adhering to the One-China policy. He said the US must take measures to correct this decision, and must stop all military contact with Taiwan. Liu also said China reserved the right to take further action.
